His sculptures, whether depicting he wildlife, Native American, or Western themes, capture the pioneering and mystical spirit of the American West.

Inspired by master teachers like Lincoln Fox, Ed Fraughton, Bruno Luccesi, Fritz White, and Michelangelo, Vic blends his passion for preserving the history of the West into his art. Over the past 27 years, he has been commissioned to create numerous monumental bronze sculptures for corporations, municipalities, and private collectors, including several for Cabela’s stores across the U.S. Vic opened his first gallery called Mountain Trails Gallery, now known as Santa Fe Trails Fine Art. He and his father, Ken Payne, pioneered the concept of bronze sales through clay works-in-progress called “Precast(s),” a practice now widely used by many sculptors.

Vic’s sculptures are displayed in the permanent collections of esteemed institutions such as the Artesia MainStreet Foundation, Booth Western Art Museum, Buffalo Bill Center of the West, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art.

Today, Vic and his wife Angie, and their family, reside in the Cody/Meeteetse, Wyoming area. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife that inspire his work, Vic continues to sculpt the spirit of the American West, one masterpiece at a time.
