Ty Barhaug

ARTIST BIO

Ty Barhaug is a talented artist known for his captivating depictions of dramatic mountain landscapes and wildlife. Born in 1963, he has a deep connection to his native state of Wyoming. Barhaug’s artistic journey began in a family with a strong appreciation for art, as his father was also an artist.

Growing up in a rural setting, Barhaug developed a love for the outdoors, which is evident in his work. ‘Every day provides me with another opportunity to observe the magnificence of this earth we call home.’

Before becoming a full-time artist in 1996, Barhaug worked in various roles, including wrangling for an outfitter, working in an art gallery, and even carpentry and contracting. Barhaug studied with Cowboy artist Robert Pummel at the Cowboy Artist Museum in Kerrville, Texas and with watercolorist Gary Fitzler in Jackson, Wyoming.

Barhaug’s talent has been recognized with numerous awards at prestigious art shows. He is a four-time winner of the Jurors’ Choice Award at the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale, where he also won the People’s Choice Award in 1999. Additionally, he received the Ralph “Tuffy” Berg Award at the C.M. Russell Auction in 1999. Barhaug’s work has been featured in several prominent magazines, including Art of the West, Southwest Art, and American Cowboy.
