Ed. of 35, Created in 1992, Opening Price – $2,600 / Closing Price – $9,500
Charley Goodnight and Oliver Loving lost 800 head of cows during a cattle drive back in 1867 due to lack of water. In this bronze sculpture, Vic features a cowboy with his hat raised searching for swallows that might lead him and his herd to water.
The cowboys on the Goodnight-Loving trail spent eighty miles on a waterless desert region from the head waters of the Concho River to the Pecos. These cowboys were skilled in survival, when traveling all eyes would watch the sky for blue swallows. For blue swallows were known for carrying mud to build their nest thus these cowboys could determine where water might be found for their herds.
