JUMANO NATIVE AMERICAN

Monumental Bronze, 1 1/4 Life-size, Limited Ed. of 7 – Created 2017
(Commissioned by San Angelo, Texas)

In 2017, Vic Payne, a San Angelo native now residing in Meeteetse, Wyoming, was commissioned to create a significant piece of art celebrating the rich history of San Angelo. The 1 1/4 Life-size monument features a Jumano Brave, capturing a powerful moment as he returns to camp after a successful turkey hunt. With the turkey slung over his back, the brave embodies resilience, resourcefulness, and the connection to nature.

The monumental bronze sculpture stands proudly along the Concho River in downtown San Angelo, paying homage to the Jumano Native Americans who inhabited the Concho Valley during the 1620s.

Vic Payne is currently welcoming proposals for monumental civic art projects & private commissions.
