ARTIST BIO
Jerry was born in 1957 in Georgia, but his family relocated to the Texas panhandle when he was very young. From as early as he can remember, Jerry has been captivated by art, starting to draw at a very young age. Despite his early interest, he didn’t take any formal art classes until after graduating from high school.
From the beginning, Jerry dreamed of traveling across the country and painting along the way. However, this dream was put on hold for several years as he pursued a career in engineering. Even while working full-time, Jerry continued studying art, taking classes at night, and working in a small studio at home. As his skills grew, so did the desire to become a full-time artist.
In 2000, Jerry finally mustered the courage to leave his engineering job and dedicate himself to painting full-time. By this time, he was living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he had a studio in his home. The entire upper floor of his two-story home was devoted to art, including his studio, office, and other rooms used for stretching canvases, framing, and photographing his work. It was an ideal setup, and he enjoyed it for several years. However, the desire to travel and paint remained strong.
Eventually, this desire became overwhelming. Jerry sold his house, bought an RV, and converted it into a mobile studio. He then “hit the road,” traveling full-time and living and painting in his mobile studio.
Jerry’s paintings are, in a word, honest. Over the years, he has worked to perfect the skills required to paint and draw well. He has trained himself to see the essential parts of a landscape that make it unique. Rather than getting bogged down with unnecessary details, Jerry focuses on the shapes, colors, and values needed to convey what he sees to the viewer.
