In Vic Payne’s first self contained water feature fountain, he weaves a story featuring two painted war ponies with their Native American riders. The riders, fleeing the relentless pursuit of Texas Rangers, rely on their intimate knowledge of the land. Vic intentionally leaves the reason for their flight to the viewer’s imagination.
Amidst the rugged expanse of the landscape, the riders press onward navigating every contour and hidden alcove. Their ancestral wisdom guides them toward a sandstone rock formation – a sentinel carved by time and wind. Petroglyphs etch its face, whispering tales of long-lost ancestors. Here, concealed from prying eyes, a natural spring gushes forth – a lifeline in the arid wilderness.
In heat of the chase, the two braves pause. Their horses drink from the spring, quenching their thirst. They watch the their pursuers in the distance, knowing the pursuit will continue. But within this hidden sanctuary, time seems to slow. The riders catch their breath, their steeds rest. Petroglyphs mark the face of the sandstone wall, and water trickles from the arch onto the outstretched hand of one brave. His companion scans the landscape ‘Where the Buffalo Roam.’
Vic Payne captures this moment that blends tension, resilience, and reverence for the land. As Vic’s studio adds this unique western fountain to his bronze sculpture portfolio, it becomes a beautiful addition to any fine art collection.
